A bowl of fresh, homemade dog food with vegetables and meat.

I used to feed my mini Aussie kibble, and he was more anxious and gained more weight. It cost me $50 a bag and would last quite a while.

As I started changing my own health, I wanted to stop giving my dog highly processed foods too.

I started with using The Farmer's Dog and after the trial decided to downgrade to using their nutrient packets with the recipes they gave me. I've modified them a little for convenience to what I can find locally.

Homemade Dog Food Recipe

  • 1 (10 lb chub of ground beef from Costco) - $40
  • 3 (bags frozen Normandy style vegetable blend) - $9 each
  • 2 nutrition packets from The Farmer's Dog - $4 per packet

Instructions:

  1. Steam the veggies and chop them up in a food processor to smaller pieces.
  2. Cook the ground beef.
  3. Mix together.
  4. Portion into vacuum seal bags.
  5. Vacuum seal & freeze.

I take them out of the freezer as needed to thaw before use. I normally have 3-ish in my fridge at a time.

Machines that make this easier:

  • Bosch mixer with whisks
  • Vacuum sealer
  • Food processor
